The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has urged the youth to register for the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections even if talks are ripe that the barangay and SK elections for this year will be postponed.
Comelec 7 assistant regional director Veronico Petalcorin said during the Kapian sa PIA forum at the Cebu Provincial Capitol that the local Comelec is now 99 percent ready for the SK elections set on October 23, 2017.
He said there are 1.3 million registered voters for SK elections in Central Visayas, including Negros Oriental, while 4.4 million are registered voters for the barangay elections.
The deadline for the SK registration is April 29, 2017.
The Comelec and youth organizations reached out the youth to participate in the SK elections for the betterment of their barangays. Petalcorin was hopeful that the elections for both barangay and SK will not be postponed again. [CebuNews.PH]
