The Casa Gorordo Museum will be opening its famed Belen collection for public viewing on December 14, 2018. The exhibit will run until January 21, 2019.

The opening of the Gorordo Belen exhibit will be preceded by a CGM Talk entitled “Pastores a Belen” by Dr. Clodoveo Vicente “Louie” Nacorda at 2:00 p.m. The title of the talk, which translates to “Shepherds to Bethlehem,” covers the history and meanings behind the Belen Christmas tradition.

Admission to the CGM Talk and Gorordo Belen exhibit opening will be for free.

Christmas for Filipinos is not complete without a display of the Belen or nativity scene. The belen in Casa Gorordo not only showcases the nativity scene but also twelve other scenes depicting the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary, and even passages from the Old Testament.

Many of the pieces in the collection date back to 1800’s and had been with four generations of the Gorordo family. When the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) acquired Casa Gorordo and turned it into a museum, it pledged to preserve the traditions of the Gorordos, which represent local culture.

Today, the displaying of the Belen remains a House Tradition of the museum.

“This year, we prepared a Belen exhibit that integrates technology aided design to bring out the nativity story as narrated by the Gorordo Belen collection in a different light,” said Florencio A. Moreño II, curator of Casa Gorordo Museum.
