At least 70 houses were destroyed in a fire that struck two sitios in Barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City, Thursday afternoon.
The fire licked through Sitios Cepadul Uno and Dos of the said barangay at 4:45 p.m., destroying houses, mostly made up of light materials, along its path before firefighters doused it off at 5:55 p.m.
Strong winds fanned the fire, causing it to quickly spread, while narrow pathways hampered the firefighting operations, according to Senior Fire Inspector Arnel Abella, the ground commander of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The number of families affected by the fire has not been tallied as of this posting while the BFP said the blaze damaged about P150,000 worth of property. No one was injured during the incident.
The cause of the blaze has not been established yet but Abella said the fire started in the house of one Judith Campaña of Sitio Cepadul Uno.
Last September, a fire in the same barangay razed a multi-storey boarding house and partly destroyed three other houses.
The boarding house owner, Elino Figuracion, 50, was injured in the incident as he tried to put out the flame on the second floor’s room using a fire extinguisher. – © CebuNews.ph
